The Malaysia Green Building Council (malaysiaGBC) announced the results of its Leadership in Sustainability Awards 2022 at its annual dinner held at the Westin Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on 1 July 2022.

Approximately 250 guests from the building, construction and manufacturing industries and professionals attended the event. Sim Chee Liang, malaysiaGBC President, gave his speech and addressed the hope of the council’s vision together with government policies to rebuild a more sustainable and resilient future for Malaysia, which is in line with the annual dinner’s theme of Building Hope. “We will reflect on our milestone achievements for the last one and a half years and set a clear end-pandemic mission to restart, reset and rebuilt the association.”

The guest of honour, Ts. Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor, CEO of Malaysia Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), expressed his concerns on the excessive energy consumption from buildings, which has contributed to climate change. He reiterated that building works in the Malaysian construction industry were accountable for 30 per cent of greenhouse gases emission as of 2019, a sign that experts need to be more rigorous in building more sustainably.
