After backlash over a tweet alleging that Asian tradesmen are “bringing down the general standards of builders,” a well-known construction company with a sizable Instagram following has issued an apology.
On Monday, QBS Ltd, which has over 9000 Instagram followers, shared a story with a photo of a construction site near Auckland’s Point England.
The post read, “live from Point England – new homes @worksafe nz sick to death of seeing this stuff around the neighbourhood,” along with the hashtags #asianbuilders and #notracistjustfacts.
“Undercutting real craftsmen, dragging down the overall quality of construction,” the story said.
“The back side of the house is worse. This is the road front, for f**king sake.

Mason, a QBS Instagram fan and builder who asked that his last name not be used, told the NZ Herald that it was “simply terrible” for the well-known account to disparage an entire race of various builders.
What if you are a young Asian man who follows this account or is a fan of the person, and you view it with dreams of becoming a builder in mind?
Mason told the Herald that it is untrue that Asian contractors leave their work sites unkempt.
He stated he’s seen many dirty sites “managed by Caucasians or Europeans”.
Mason sent a message to the Instagram account denouncing the “racist insults,” according to the Herald.
Mason stated, “If you can’t see that’s not racist, you’re part of the problem.
But the account’s owner escalated the criticism, claiming, “I have never hired [an Asian worker] and never will.”
