The Institute of Landscape Architecture Malaysia (ILAM) hosted the 12th Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA12) to celebrate excellence in the landscape architecture industry by honoring some of the most sustainable ideas at The Wembley Hotel in Georgetown, Pulau Pinang on 25 March 2022.

Positioned as one of the most prestigious awards for landscape architecture in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region, MLAA aims to inspire the creation and implementation of new design trends and lead landscape development in the country and beyond.

The Awards recognises the contributions of outstanding landscape architects; consultancy firms; developers; researchers; students; contractors; suppliers; government agencies; the media; and individuals at home and abroad for shaping the country’s landscaping sphere.

MLAA12 received a total of 135 submissions across seven categories. New sub-categories have been introduced in this year’s MLAA, including CSR Category—Green Initiatives Award and the Professional Category (International Entry) for both Landscape Design Awards and Landscape Analysis and Study Awards. The Wajah ILAM award is also introduced to recognise individuals (ILAM members or non-ILAM members) who have made a significant contribution to landscape architecture, environmental awareness and protection as well as elevating the spirit of landscape architecture to another level. A total of 57 MLAA awards and seven ILAM awards were presented.

MLAA is also part of a wide array of activities organised by ILAM in conjunction with World Landscape Architecture Month’s celebration in April, aiming to introduce the profession to a larger audience and create greater awareness of the growing role of landscape architects in the outdoor built environment. ILAM is devoted to promote and enhance the integral role of landscape architects in urban settings and the development of local and international communities.
