Featuring over 100 programmes spread throughout the year, the Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF) by Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) was launched by Deputy Minister of Local Government Development (KPKT), Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir on 7 January 2023 at PAM’s headquarters in Bangsar.

Running under the theme of NEXT100 to commemorate PAM’s centennial, the festival aims to actively engage the public to build a better Malaysia for the next decade. According to PAM President, Associate Professor (Industry) Ar. Sarly Adre Sarkum, it serves as a platform for discourse and a catalyst for collaboration between architects, industry professionals, and the society.

“Greater public engagement is necessary for architects to better realise future cities that will meet the challenges we face and at the same time, more accurately project the hopes and dreams of all Malaysians,” he explained.

To achieve that, the programming of KLAF has been divided into five key thrusts: Engage, Educate, Evolve, Extend, and Evoke.

“The thrusts are then broken down into bite-sized topics or activities that represent different aspects of architecture. These include home builds and renovations; design and conceptualisation; new technologies or materials; and education and training,” KLAF Director, Ar. Adj. Norzaini Mufti added.
