Wee Ka Siong of Barisan Nasional claims that although some of the proposed schools have already filed their plans, the education ministry has not yet responded.

KUALA LUMPUR: A government lawmaker has urged Putrajaya to consent to the building of Chinese institutions that have received public funding.

According to Wee Ka Siong (BN-Air Hitam), the people behind some of the proposed schools had already submitted their plans, but the education minister had not yet responded.
Construction on these institutions, according to Wee, could not start without the ministry’s approval.

“Numerous boards of directors of these schools have raised enough money through donations to construct schools.

“They have all the required approvals, but not those from the government. He stated this when discussing the budget’s allocation for the education sector. “The ministry’s EPRD (education planning and research department) should approve them right away,” he said.

Wee disclosed that more than RM20 million had been raised from the public for two local schools in Johor Bahru, SJK(C) Kuek Ho Yao and SJK(C) Mao Yi, but that construction could not start because the government had not yet approved these.

Wee, who is also the head of the MCA, claimed that numerous Chinese schools that had already begun construction shared the same fate.
