Construction Industry Development Board Law (CIDBL) has been drafted and the law will come into effect after approval from Union Parliament, said  Deputy Minister for Construction Kyaw Lin.

The information came after a Lower House MP Naing Ko Ko for Kachin State Constituency No (12) questioned the union government if there was a plan to establish a third party organization with experts and engineers from relevant fields after dissolving township construction quality assessment committees across Myanmar.

“Our ministry has completed a draft of CIDBL. Measures will be taken to apply the law only after seeking approval from Union Parliament, said the deputy minister.

He said when the law is in effect, CIDB will be formed at central and regional levels. Under  CIDB, there will be inspection teams responsible for construction management, safety, quality control and fire protection and inspection.

For the emergence of CIDB in Myanmar, the Ministry of Construction sent 15 officers to Malaysia to study a one-month course on regulation, law, by-law and directive related to CIDB. They also did a similar course in Singapore.

MP Naing Ko Ko said township construction quality assessment committees were formed with township administrators, officers and engineers from township electricity supply committees. However, corruption had led to poor quality, frequent damage to facilities and fund losses, he commented.
